Actor and comedian Will Ferrell was rushed to a hospital Thursday night after he was reportedly involved in a serious two-car crash in Southern California.

The crash happened on Interstate 5 and caused the SUV that Ferrell was riding in to flip over, TMZ reported.

Ferrell was one of three passengers in the SUV, and all were taken to a hospital, according to the celebrity news site.

It was unclear what caused the crash. The California Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to requests Friday for more information.

Video from the scene recorded by LA-OC.tv showed a black SUV with its windows shattered and Ferrell conscious and talking on a phone as paramedics wheeled him into an ambulance on a stretcher.

A representative for Ferrell told TMZ on Friday morning that the actor did not suffer significant injury and had been released from a hospital.

The condition of others involved in the crash was unknown.

Ferrell, a former Saturday Night Live cast member who has parlayed his exaggerated goofball style of humour into a successful movie career, is perhaps best known for his roles in comedies such as AnchormanElfTalladega Nights and Step Brothers.

Ferrell had been in San Diego on Thursday for event with comedian Billy Eichner, where he appeared as Anchorman character Ron Burgundy and encouraged people to register to vote ahead of the midterm elections.
