Hong Kong/China (16/12). A 57-year-old man engaged in a scuffle with several pro-democracy protesters on a pedestrian footbridge connecting Ma On Shan Park and Bayshore Towers on 11th November due to political difference.
Moments later, a rioter clad in black appeared and poured inflammable liquid over his body before setting fire to him. He suffered severe burns and he has since undergone three skin transplant surgeries. 2/3 of the transplants have shown a significant progress. The patient’s condition has also improved now and he can now walk a few steps on his own but his body is still very feeble. He still suffered from fever yesterday.
Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong visited him and his wife at the hospital yesterday to give him mental support. He gave him a handwritten greeting card and a cheque to help his family during this difficult period. Many other concerned citizens also sent their well wishes to him.
