Human waste dumped onto Hwy. 400, causing lane closures — and a stench

A tractor trailer carrying human waste for fertilizer reportedly swerved to avoid a collision ahead, spilling the waste all over the street.

Commuters found themselves caught in a messy situation Friday morning after a human waste spill caused delays on Hwy. 400.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to Hwy. 400 northbound at Duckworth St. around 10 a.m. after a tractor trailer reportedly swerved to avoid a collision ahead, spilling it’s load all over the street.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, who earlier notified motorists in a tweet, says the driver was transporting the human waste north for use as fertilizer. He added that despite the unwanted smell, there are no dangerous materials to worry about on the road.

“I’m sure the grass in the area will be nice and green for spring,” he said. “There’s a bit of a mess up there, but we’re hoping to get everything cleaned up by 1 p.m. this afternoon.”

The two right lanes remain closed for cleanup.

Twitter users made sure to respond to Schmidt’s initial tweet with their best puns.
